AMATEUR RADIO IN JAPAN

//CHOOSE_YOUR_ROUTE

  • ▸Japanese qualification: examinations are one route; approved courses also exist for third- and fourth-class qualifications. See JARL’s licensing overview.
  • ▸Recognized foreign qualification: check your country and licence class against JARL’s current eligibility list and application procedure. Qualifying visitors can apply too; a residence card is not universally required.
  • ▸Guest operation is a separate option at a licensed host’s station. The host must be present, and both the operator’s and station’s limits apply.

//THE_FCC_ROUTE

For an English-language examination, a U.S. FCC amateur licence may be useful if its class qualifies for the Japanese procedure.

  • ▸Study with HamStudy, selecting the current question pool for your exam.
  • ▸Get an FCC Registration Number (FRN) before the exam. This is required for applicants, including those with an SSN. Check ARRL’s exam checklist for identity, email and paperwork requirements; overseas applicants should confirm their situation with the exam team.
  • ▸Find a session through ARRL’s exam search. Confirm registration, venue and the exam fee with the team.
  • ▸A new FCC licence generally has a separate US$35 application fee, paid directly to the FCC. See the current payment instructions.

Passing the FCC exam does not itself authorize transmission in Japan.

//APPLYING_THROUGH_JARL

Submit the required forms, licence/identity documents, equipment details and payment evidence. JARL asks for applications at least 60 days before intended operation. Wait for approval and follow the issued licence’s conditions.

JARL lists ¥2,750 for a portable/mobile station up to 50 W and ¥5,400 for a fixed station above 50 W through 200 W, as of March 30, 2026. Equipment assurance and annual charges may be additional. Check the full fee and equipment requirements before paying.

//BAND_PLANS_AND_REPEATERS

Use JARL’s English resource index for its published band plan, and the repeater directory for current lists and the D-STAR link. Confirm each repeater’s frequency, shift, mode and operating status before configuring your radio.

//日本語 :: 始め方を選ぶ

コミュニティの無線チャンネルでの議論をもとにした入門案内です。具体的な申請手順や運用条件は、各項目の公式リンクで確認してください。

  • ▸日本の資格を取得する場合は国家試験のほか、第三級・第四級には認定された養成課程もあります。上記JARLの制度概要を参照してください。
  • ▸外国の資格を使う場合は、JARLの最新一覧で国・資格区分の適用を確認します。条件を満たす短期滞在者も申請でき、在留カードが全員に必須というわけではありません。
  • ▸ゲスト運用は、免許人の立ち会いのもと、その局の設備を使用する別の方法です。運用者の資格と局免許の両方の範囲に従います。

//FCC試験を利用する場合

英語の試験を希望する場合、米国FCCのアマチュア無線資格が選択肢になります。日本での手続きに対応する資格区分を確認してください。

  • ▸HamStudyで受験する資格の現行問題集を選んで勉強します。
  • ▸受験前にFCC登録番号（FRN）を取得します。SSNを持つ人にも必要です。本人確認、メールアドレス、書類などはARRLの受験案内を確認し、海外からの申請条件は試験チームに相談してください。
  • ▸ARRLの試験検索で会場を探し、予約方法・日時・受験料を主催チームに確認します。
  • ▸FCCの新規免許申請には通常、受験料とは別に35米ドルの手数料があり、FCCへ直接支払います。上の支払い案内を確認してください。

FCC試験に合格しただけでは、日本で送信できません。

//JARL経由の申請

必要な申請書、免許・本人確認書類、設備情報、支払い証明を準備します。JARLは運用開始希望日の60日以上前の申請を求めています。免許の交付を待ち、その条件に従って運用してください。

2026年3月30日現在、JARL掲載の申請料は50 W以下の移動局が2,750円、50 W超200 W以下の固定局が5,400円です。設備の保証料や年ごとの費用が別途必要な場合があります。支払う前に公式ページで全条件を確認してください。
